Start Planning: Are you planning to visit Nepal?

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has notified that most of the Lukla flights will be inducted from Manthali Airport, Ramechhap in this summer (1 Oct 2019 to 30 Nov, 2019) just to avoid the air traffic congestion in Tribhuwan International Airport. The Manthali airport is located just 130 km far east from the Kathmandu valley which takes approximately 3 and half hours to arrive by driving.

So, get informed to everyone who is going to trek Everest in this season.

  1. Hello,
    Thank you for your info.
I am trying to plan the everest base camp trek for the end of april 2020. Could you please help with some info in regards to the lukla flight? Do I need to book it or just take the flight when on site? In the first case, could you please tell me in which website I can book the lukla flight?
    Thank you very much!

    1. Dear Andrea,

End of the March is definitely a good time to trek Everest. Lukla flight may be diverted to Ramechhap rather than Kathmandu like October – November of 2019. It’s all because of the traffic congestion at Tribhuvan International airport which is one and the only international airport in Nepal.

It is highly supposed that you may not get the flight when you are on-site because the month of March to May is the best season to trek. So, many people come to trek.

Therefore, I only can suggest you book the flight ticket earlier either through the airline’s website or any other travel agencies who can offer a better price.

However, the online reservation system is very difficult due to the hard payment gateway. Anyway, travel agencies and some airlines have managed it.

Keep in mind that the airline’s price may be higher than travel agencies

But you need to drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap (Manthali airport) if the flights are diverted. So, at least, one spare day is suggested to include in your itinerary because it will take at least 4 -5 hours to reach Ramechhap from Kathmandu by driving.
